Preparing for Chickens
We have about 30 egg chickens, but figured we would do meat chickens as well. Before our meat chicks arrived, here is how we prepared:
We built a structure out of metal grids with a waterproof tarp zip tied to it. This will be to keep the coup dry and protect it from the wind.
We built a wooden coup inside and covered it with cardboard with insulation on top and laid 12′ 2X4’s on top to hold it down.
We put shavings down, an auto feeder/water dispenser, thermometer to make sure temperature stays around 90 degrees, and heat lamps.
